Are there any good freeware standalone crosstab generators?

A crosstabulation is a summary table that shows how two variables relate to
one another in a given dataset. For example, if a questionnaire says "Do
you like to watch Football on TV?" the answers may be presented as a two by
two table with cells for "Female - Yes", "Female - No", "Male - Yes" and
"Male - No". Commercial packages that feature this (and many other
analyses) include SPSS and SIR.

Things can get a lot fancier than that, but that is the basic case. I'm
looking for a package that will accept a simple text data file holding the
input and produce output tables. A bonus if the data values can be
"grouped" to create new variables to simplify the analysis.

There is one listed on PC Mag's site called "XTab 2.1". Anyone tried that?
Most others seem to be Delphi or SQL add-ons.

Depends on your number of cases. If you have less than 42,000 (I guess)
use OpenOffice, or any other spreadsheet that provides for this.
