Crosstab (transpose) like query

I would like to perform a crostab like query where the intersection of row
and column is a data value and not an expresion.

Part, defect and date are my fields, where part is the row heading, defect
is the column heading and date is the intersection. I want the actual date
and not an arithmetic expression.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Set the Date field as the Value and choose "First" or "Max" or whatever.
