Cross referencing a bookmark in a numbered list.

I have a numbered list, 3.1 - 3.24, in a table
I bookmark the first number in the list 3.1.
I create a cross reference to the bookmark selecting show book mark text.
But the crossrefernce text displays 3.25 rather than 3.1.
How do I avoid this?
