Critical Update Doesn't "Take"

I have attempted four times to download/install the
latest critical updates. There is one item (Update Rollup
1 for Microsoft Windows XP (KB826939)) which seems to end
sucessfully, but when a new scan is done it says it needs
to be updated. What gives????????

Prevent Windows Update from prompting you to install a Hotfix
you know is already installed.

Quoting from link below, "No checking is done to see if the Hotfix is
actually installed on your system, so its your responsibility to ensure that
it is". So if this folder exists $NtUninstallKB826939$ have I done
sufficient checking????
thanks

The Windows Update history log file is called "iuhist.xml"
and it is located in C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate\V4.
This is a hidden directory so please change your view
options to show hidden files and folders.

(Control Panel > Folder Options > View)

Look in the "iuhist.xml" file.

You may also wish to download and run the following:
