Critical Stop Problems... Scot

What a mess I have...

Hybrid AMD64, Gigabyte 1600 FSB board, 256 and 512 ddr400 memory,
13 months old, XP SP1 with updates (no SP2), Netscape 7.2.

Simultaneously I switched to DSL and added more memory (512).
Since these additions, about once a day I now get Critical Stops.
After about 15 reports to microsoft, the Office Watson no longer
responds, and I can no longer report the problem.
Also there is now an unknown device that I cannot account for
(I did not add anything to machine prior to or after adding the DSL).

Steps I have taken:
Verified all device and device drivers (no change here except DSL connection).
Norton Anti Virus subscription since day one (renew was after the Crit.
Stops).
Ad-Aware
Spy Bot
Syntax error in file called TXTSETUP.(CIS ?) when trying to reinstall XP
from original installation disc.
Unsuccessful attempt to System Restore (24 hours earlier).
Successful attempt to System Restore (7 days earlier).

Still have Critical Stops and Office Watson still not responding.

I have systematicly turned off / unplugged / removed each device
to no avail (I originally thought DSL box causes this).

It does not matter which program / programs I am running when
the Critical Stop occurs. It does not matter which device is plugged
in or unplugged.

Any help would be appreciated.

I need a very tall building rooftop to properly launch XP.

As you mentiond, you did two things-- Added DSL and memory. Logically either
might be at fault.
Start by testing the memory. It's quite possible that the 256 and 512
modules are not fully compatable. Microsoft does have a memory test program
available on the web.

Next, what DSL related software was installed, and how does the computer
connect to the DSL equipment (USB, Ethernet, etc.) Was any software loaded
as part of the DSL install?

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for your response.

I have been given hints to remove the new 512, or swap location with the 256,
making the 512 read first... The first option I will do tonight.

As far as I can tell, all of the RAM is being read.

When DSL was hooked up thru the network port (looks like a glorified phone
jack),
my system did not automatically detect addresses. I called my provider and
they
helped me fill in the TCP/IP information. I then asked if there was any
drivers I
needed, they said no. I was also informed the DSL box was pre-programmed,
and I did not need to do anything (else).

Poking around in System Information, I found the unknown device.
Device (name) and PNP Device ID:
Not Available ACPI\_NVRAIDBUS\3&13C0B0C5&0

I do not know what this device is. Any help here?
I have disabled this device, but still got a Critical Stop last night
(both the RAM and DSL still working)...

Motherboard is a Gigabyte model GA-K8ns.
The only cards added to this board is the (old) modem and a LPT2 port.
Sound is inboard, and there is a (generic) AGP video card.

Continuing to poke around in the System Information, I found the Dr. Watson,
and located a log file that had gotten rather large (5,000K). I am thinking
this
is why the Office Watson quit responding... I have since removed the checkmark
where "Append Log File".

I hope this additional information will help further determine my problems.

Catapult not required when such a tall building.
