Creating smaller and larger cells on the same sheet

Matt P.

In Excel, it it possible on one sheet to have a row of cells on the upper
part of the sheet one size and the lower rows another width. I'm making a
template for out track team where I'm putting scores for each event at the
top of the page so I need smaller cells. At the bottom of the paige I'm
typing in athletes' names which means the cells need to be wider. it's almost
like I'm trying to two different formats onto one page. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Matt P.

Column Width is a function of the column, not cells, so all cells in a
column will be the same width.

one suggestion would be to make the cells the appropriate width for the
top, then just leave a cell blank between the name and the first data
cell at the bottom. The name will, as long as wrap text isn't set, spill
over into the next cell to the right. If you hide gridlines (use cell
borders if you want to see *some* lines), you won't be able to tell the
difference.

I don't recommend you merge cells, simply because that screws up
copy/paste, sort, etc. and is nearly always more trouble than its worth.
