Creating shared borders from an existing site

Is it possible to create shared borders from an existing web that has been created from 'layers'

I want to create shared borders from the 3 layers at the head of my page, the single layer on the left hand side and the 2 layers in the footer area. The only remaining area is the content area

I have created a template but using this means reloading each page in the web when a link is selected - that can't be efficient use of bandwidth and it doesn't help me maintain the links. I have to update all the links on each page when changes are made. Is this what shared borders avoids?

Just apply the shared borders (top/left/bottom) you want to all pages and copy the content from the layers to your appropriate
shared border, then delete the layers in your main pages (each page)

You may want to play around with Shared Borders first, so you will discover the limitations before you convert to using them.

Welp... I just whacked out one site that I had navs in shared borders and I can tell ya....you need at least a case of Bud when this happens ...I'm gonna just dump them completely and redesign the site. I've learned soooo much on this ng in the past few months. This place is worth every penny.

Shared borders are fine for a simple site, but they are quite limiting and can REALLY drive you wonkers for more complex stuff. A better alternative is using Tables AND Included Content/Page....much more flexible!

I thought they were cool until I started adding more pages, and wanting different navs...you also can't size them...and if you delete one even though it shouldn't effect other pages with them on it...it does. That's how I just whacked my site :-(

I'm still using FP2002.
