Creating pdf files

Pete

I have tried a number of pdf creators on my Vista machine but they all seem
to be incompatible, invaribly crashing (Acrobat 6, deskpdf, nitropdf). I
understand Acrobat 8 will work on Vista but this way to expensive for me.

Anyone know of a pdf creator which works reliably on Vista?

If you are just looking for a simple PDF printer, I have used BullZip
PDF Printer - http://www.bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php.

I have not used any professional PDF generation packages in line with
the ones you have listed.

Microsoft Office 2007 has a plug-in available to convert documents to PDF or
XPS format.

I have been using this and it works fine. It does add another step or two to
the process if you want to create a .pdf file from a web page.

Actually, I'm becoming a big fan of XPS ;-)

I'm using DeskPDF Pro (docudesk.com) on Vista Ultimate and haven't had any
problems to date. I'm not doing anything super complex. I mostly use it to
save stuff from the 'net and emailing documents out. I've also used Perfect
PDF Creator (cosmi.com) without problems, although it was somewhat slow. The
latest version (6.XX) of Software 602's Print2PDF is said to be compatible
but I haven't tried it. All of the products I've mentioned are from US
$20-$40 for a single user license.

Cute PDF's PDF Witer works fine on 32-bit and 64-bit. And it's free. If you
want to manipulate the pages, you can upgrade to CutePDF

I last looked on their site a couple of weeks ago. As far as I remember
there was a message that a Vista version of pdf creator would be out
eventually but that there seemed to be no urgency to make it happen. I then
looked elsewhere and found Bullzip PDF Printer (also free) which has worked
faultlessly to the extent that I doubt that I shall bother with pdf creator.

I would like to use the XPS format, but it looks like its not possible to
edit the document.

Nitro PDF Professional is Vista compatible and is roughly 1/3 the
price of Acrobat. It will allow you to create, edit, markup and secure
PDFs, plus much more. There is also a 14 day limitation free trial
version available.
