Creating New Label in Captions

M

Microsoft Neighbor

Using Word 2007. I have both figures and photographs in the same document
that I want to number separately. I inserted captions for the first three
figures, no problem. I created a New Label named Photograph, selected it,
hit the OK button, and the inserted caption said Photograph 4. I can't
figure out how to get it to start the numbering for photographs. It always
worked in Word 2003. I also tried to create a list of figures and a separate
list of photographs and kept ending up with a combined list no matter what I
did. Another thing that worked fine in Word 2003. Any suggestions?

Are you tracking changes? If so, note that numbering (applies to any kind of
numbering in Word) won't be correct until you have accepted all changes.

If you use Alt+F9 to toggle on the display of the formfields, you should set

Figure { SEQ Figure \* ARABIC }

for the Figures and

Picture { SEQ Picture \* ARABIC }

for the Pictures

If you see

Picture { SEQ Figure \* ARABIC }

for the Pictures, you did not go about creating the new caption the correct
way (by using the New Caption button in the Caption dialog.
