Creating Labels using an Excel Spreadsheet

I would like to create mailing labels using Excel and
import the data into a word template. Before I start
building the spreadsheet I would also like to know the
format to use for the columns: first name, last name or
last name and first name in one column. Thank you for
your assistance.
