creating calendar events automatically

I have a question about creating calendar events automatically. This
could be from the web or inside outlook with a custom button/program.
If you could point me in the right direction that would be great. I
did see an example of the MS site. Looks pretty simple to do from a
URL; icalendar. That might meet my needs but if possible not even
require user interaction.
