Creating a password-protected web page

I've followed #825498 article to set up a password protected subsite but when
I come to the testing part of it, nothing works correctly. My question is
this: Do this have to be done on a Windows Server ONLY. I am using a LINUS
server. My server supports ASP and allows permissions to set up users.

That article uses an Access database to store details - which database
are you using?
Access will not run on Linux.
