create subdomain

I require to set up a subdomain to point to another IP Address at another
server.

I have created the domain within a current zone then added the A Host Record
with the appropriate IP Address and updated the nameserver record but I
guess I'm missing something.

For instance do I also have to add info to the Reverse Lookup and if so,
what?

Can anyone offer advice?

I guess I'm missing something to because why would you update the Name
server record?

Is DNS not resolving the subdomain?

What was the name of the record in the sub domain?
If you want just the subdomain to resolve to an IP address e.g.
"subdomain.example.com" you need to create an A record without a host name,
it will bark at you saying "(same as parent folder) is not a valid host
name", click OK to create the record anyway.

You don't have to add the reverse lookup, reverse lookups are generally only
needed for SMTP servers. There are some other applications that require a
reverse lookup and nslookup performs a reverse lookup on the DNS server it
is querying. But, generally reverse lookups are not relevant.

You'll have to clarify exactly what is not resolving in your subdomain.

created a Host A Record incorporating the ip address of the other server.

With this, I expected to have the subdomain www.example.mycompany.com

What name did you give the record?
It must be named www for it to resolve www.example.mycompany.com to the IP
address.

The name is just "example" with the Host Record

so that would make it http://example.mycompany.com rather than
http://www.example.mycompany.com ?

Either with or without the www is fine

Did you create a subdomain named example or a host named example?

The subdomain was named example... and the host record in the subdomain was
named example?
Then the record would be "example.example.mycompany.com"
IF you create the host and leave the name field blank, it will resolve as
"example.mycompany.com" if you name the record www, it would be
www.example.mycompany.com IMO if this is for a website, I would have both a
blank host and a www host so it will resolve both ways. Some people will
always add www to website addresses by habit.

For the Host A Record in the field Name(Uses parent domain if left blank), I
left blank.

The FQDN in example.mycompany.com

and the other server IP Address.
