CRC errors!

I've an ACER laptop - when burning DVD-Rs I get CRC errors!

1. When using CDCHECK it never comes back with the same number of errors
twice in a row - first time was 171 2nd 161 then 137 - should I scrap the
whole disc?

2. The discs I'm using are from Tescos (I know I know) - is it likely to be
the drive or the disc at fault - I'm getting quite a high 'bad disk' count
(about 50+% so far).

The drive seems ok for all other functions.

I will by some good quality blanks today to see if this is the problem!

The good quality (Sony) discs are no better - first I tried generated 116 crc
errors.

Writing cd-r works 100% ok though!

I'm a tad dissapointed at the lack of response to my query.

I've contacted Acer and they've suggested that:

1. As the drive works perfectly with cd-r's that the hardware is not at fault.

2. I try writing with Norton Antivirus disabled - initial hopes were high
vbut still generated crc error (I gave up cdcheck after 40+).

3. That as I've installed Windows XP SP2 this is the problem - is this likely?

PLEASE, PLEASE give some thought to my problem!

Tony

Lots to read there Kelly - it all looks rather depressing - I think I'll give
up and stick to cd-r's.

I'd like to add that my failure rate is probably much higher than the 50% I
said earlier - more like 75% - and it seems to make little difference whether
I spend 25p on a disk or £1.

What is the expected failure rate?
