Craziest Mouse issue I've ever had...could use some help...

Okay...this is wild...So I moved my pc from one side of my desk to another.
It required me to unplug everything and plug everything back in once the
tower was moved. This means I unplugged my USB port mouse in the process...

So when I plug everything back in, I didn't immediately notice anything and
after a short while my cursor freezes on my desktop. I realize that the
mouse is, in fact, still working because I can still highlight and click
things, but the cursor itself is no longer moving around. (so finding what i
need to click on becomes an issue of patience and luck)

I attempted to swap out the mouse, I tried different USB ports, I
uninstalled the software and re-installed it and got a new USB mouse, AND
then got a PS2 mouse, assuming it was the USB ports. NONE of this has
worked. The cursor freezes constantly and I have to reboot the entire PC to
fix the problem only to have it occur again at some random point while using
my pc.

Any ideas on what the heck is going on? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

I'm wondering if this always happens as the cursor moves across some
object (like a window frame) which would make the cursor change shape.
Sounds like the cursor is being changed to 'transparent' which is used
e.g. when you have 'Hide pointer while typing' selected in the mouse
settings (control panel).

There are lots more mouse settings nowadays that you might try changing
just as a test. Pointer shadows, pointer themes including animated
pointers, etc. There's one for 'Show me pointer location when I press
Ctl' which sounds interesting.

I would bet that if you opened the Task Manager (Cntrl-Alt-Del) and looked
at your Performance tab, the CPU is probably maxed out. Open the
Application and Process tabs to see what is keeping it busy. Could be the
indexing or it's doing a defrag. Something has got the CPU/s doing a whole
lot of work. Is your disk light flashing like crazy?
