CPU use during heavy disk access

Hi,

I have just installed a new Venice 3200+ in a Asus A8N-Premium. I
noticed recently that whenever there is very heavy disk use (copying
over GBs, or installing software from DVD), the CPU useage will
fluctuate very heavily from 30 to 100% several times a second, and the
computer will (obviously) be very unresponsive. Never really
experienced this in other systems, and am wondering what may be doing
on? Could it a driver issue?

Check the transfer mode setting for the drive(s), sounds like it's in
PIO mode instead of DMA 2.

I just reinstalled windows and it appers fine. Thanks for the help
