while doing large projects such as, converting movies
from one format to another, my computer works great for
about twenty minutes then a process called "system idle"
takes up 98% of my cpu. what is the problem? please help.

thank you for your time

That means after converting the movie the processor is idle. What did you
expect? Look up the word idle in the dictionary.

Ah, another eejit. Suggest you avail yourself of the nearest dictionary and
look up the meaning of 'idle'. Whatever your problem is, that isn't it.

the process is not finished. it is only half done with the
conversion. then the idle(to operate at low speed)process
cuts it off. does that work better for the confused "too
smart for everyone" people out there.

The System Idle process is simply a filler entry so as to account for
the unused portion of the available CPU time. Regardless of whether
or not your application program has reached "end of job" it has
stopped processing, indicating that it has reached some sort of an
impasse or hang-up. You probably need to contact the program
manufacturer or someone who is an expert in using that particular
program.

Good luck
