CPU Temp

Hi

What's the average temp of a CPU?
I have an AMD Athlon XP1800+, and when i see in the BIOS, the CPU Temp is
+50°C/122°F..
I think it's too much, and i've seen that there was no thermic pate on the
CPU... (thanks to my computer responsable!!!)

sorry for my english if you don't understand all..

Hi

There is no average because we've never polled "everyone".
The expected temp will vary based on:

CPU speed
HALT Cooling
Heatsink used
Heatsink interfact material
fan size
fan speed
chassis airflow rate
chassis airflow pattern
room ambient temp
other component heat production
deviations from spec'd voltage levels
air pressure
level of dust buildup

50C is an OK temp for the stock AMD cooler. You could get lower temp with
a new heatsink but if the system is stable don't worry about it, rather
you ought to make sure the rest of the system is also cool enough.

If your CPU runs hotter than 60C under full load then it might be good to
remove the heatsink, clean off the bottom and top of CPU then apply a
fresh, thin layer of heatsink grease.

The system wasn't stable. It shut off every time...
But now , with the heatsink grease, it's ok..The temp is approximately 40°C
and the system is stable

Thanks

That's very unusual; mine runs mid 40's in the winter, and is now in the
low 50's, and will climb a bit more as summer approaches. I've pushed it
to about 2.5ghz and even with the stock cooler it only makes the upper
60's and is still stable as a rock.
