Edy

Hello all

this is my first post in this forum

I bought this mainboard with my computer a few days ago. I will us
this PC as a server

However I get a CPU fan error while I boot up the PC and can resum
with the F1 key. I experienced that this error only occurs when th
computer is off over night. A reboot or turn off the computer for 1
minutes does not trigger this error

So I don't know how serious this error is. I use PC Probe and my CP
temperature is betwwen 50-60 degrees. Very seldom at 60 most of the
time 53-55. Mainboard temperature is lower 43 degree. CPU fan ha
betwwen 1200 - 1400 rpm

What do you advice? Should I return the PC to fix it

Disable Q-fan and let the Intel retail fan set the fan speed for
itself. The Intel retail fan is temperature sensitive, and it
measures the case air temperature. It will ramp up in speed,
between 30C and 38C case air temperature. If the case air temp
is above 38C, it cannot go any faster. Using Q-fan means the
motherboard will thermo-regulate to a 60C CPU temperature, and
the fan will spin quite slowly. Disabling Q-fan will allow the
Intel fan to spin faster.

Your symptoms don't suggest the PC needs repairs. It could just
be the Q-fan BIOS setting - "Asus Q-Fan Control" [disabled].

Can the fan speed detection for the CPU fan be disabled? If so, that
might stop the alarm from going off for having too slow of a fan
speed. I think Asus's MB's tend to assume that a slow fan is always a
sign of failure even when it is completely safe & intentional.

Hi Paul,
You mention that the 'retail' version fan has a temperature sensor.
How can you see that you have a sensor built in in the fan?
Note I have a Intel fan that came with the CPU 530J. It is not
mentioned in the documentation that a sensor is built in.

Thanks Paul

Your reply made me more safe in assumption that the fan is no
broken

I noticed the Q-fan entry in the BIOS and will disable it

I disabled Q-fan and immediately noticed louder fan, so I decided to
go back with Qfan. I 'd rather have a quiet PC and think can live
with CPU fan error. Maybe Asus will fix it or have another solution.
This mobo is quite now.

But thank anyway Paul for your inputs.

Just want to mention that you can turn off the warning.
Only problem is that you turn off all boot-up warnings.
