yeah, the service is internet explorer. it is right in
between icf and ipsec services.
yeah, i did an online scan with norton, have spybot, and
adaware. comp is running better now, but i have to wait
for it to load my profile, and the taskbar/ start menu
takes about 5 mins to load. until then, i just get a
hourglass icon. it makes an error noise, like it is givin
up on something, and then it is fine. until about 5 mins
later. then it does it again. is this possibly to do with
the internet explorer service? could another program have
added the internet explorer service into my list? (i
notice that they do that sometimes)

thanks 4 ur help all

Check your event logs.. See what thye have in them and come back here with
that..

Start -> Run
eventvwr
OK

Look for errors in the System and Application logs.

in my event viewer, i have no error messages for today.
in the system one, i lost count of the error messages
from yesturday, but i think that was when i was playin
around with my services.
there wasnt even a warning logged for today. my system is
fine with xp(i have plenty of recources left over) which
is y i cant figure out why it takes so long for taskbar
to respond.

Bryan,

I'm not sure what is going on there. Internet Explorer is a browser,
that provides a gui interface. Services are processes that run in the
background and provide no gui, just support other processes.

Go into the services list, right click on Internet Explorer, select
Properties, look at the General tab, and copy the "Path to
executable". Then use Windows Explorer, find the executable, right
click on it, Properties, and look under Version tab, specifically at
Company. Other item names may be interesting too. Post back here.

If you've used AdAware and Spybot, try HijackThis too. See this
article for instructions (follow instructions):
