I need to count totals and subtotals using the various routes?

I also need it to recaculate if i make a change to runner totals, start
site or routes they take.

I have about 12 route in total

see below small example

Runners Site No Start Site Name Route01 Route02 Route03 Route04 Total
20 1 hut A01 A04 A03 A10 ?
53 2 hill A08 A02 A09 A06 ?
21 3 fork in road A07 A06 A05 A09 ?
98 4 river A05 A02 A09 A08 ?

Many thanks in advance

Josa,

Your example is difficult to read. Could you repost, maybe adding ... to pad
it out so that it lines up? Also, give a worked example.

hope this is better

What I am trying to get to is I will be able tell how many runners have
passed through each route and where they started from

so only 20 runner have passed through route A03 and they all started at
site 1 the hut.

By plan is to increase the the routes to lessed the impack on the
people marking the runners.

thanks

You can count the sum of runners through any Route with

=SUMPRODUCT((D2:G5="A02")*A2:A5)
