Is there a utility or benchmark or demo program out there that can identify
how many pipelines a particular ATI card has?

Such a utility, even if one exists, would just read the info off the card
BIOS, which is about as reliable as any official literature.

What are you trying to do, finding out how many physical pipelines there are
on the GPU before trying to unlock them?

I found one, called ATITool.

I'm trying to find out whether or not the card I've been sold is the one
advertised (AIW9800Pro), and it turns out that it is not (AIW9800). I'll see
how the company responds tomorrow.
