Counting entries in filtered spreadsheet

Hi
I have a large spreadsheet of data (4500plus rows) and use auto-filter to
manage this data.
I also use count/counta/countif to track numbers about this data.
What i need to know is; is there a function that will only count the data
displayed when a filter is applied rather than the whole spreadsheet.

That works great, but now what if I need to count certain sections;
ie
Data is filter by a persons name and I need to count data by info in another
column as you would with countif?
