Counting colored cells

Does anyone know how to count cells if they are colored ...I want t
shade cells red (to indicate vacation) and want to count the re
cells..??...Using a COUNTIF formula won't work......an
suggestions??..thanks
 
If the Vacation data is coded as say "VACATION" or perhaps
in a column stating Vacation then using =Countif will work
or perhaps using the same sort of formula used in
Conditional Format for the original red color.
