Counting a specific character in columns

Hi:

Could any one provide me a formula how to count a character in multipl
column. When I searched in the forum, I got the formula for how to ge
the count in a cell (=LEN(A24)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A24,A25,"")), where A2
will have the string and A25 will have that specific character),
tried playing with this formula, but didn't yield any result.

Any help will be really appreciated
