countif, but only using partial cell contents in the reference array

i had already set it up with the helper column
however, i like to keep things as clean as possible :)

OK, so I tried it out, but
--(MID(C10:C960,FIND("{",C10:C960,1)+1,8)

generates a #VALUE! error

Thanks muchly for your ongoing help max, its greatly appreciated,

Is that exactly what you typed? That isn't the formula you were given. Take
another look.
