LATE BREAKING The New Version 1.5 has been released!

V1.5 delivers many "under-the-hood" improvements in spyware scanning

for scanning .zip files, and you now can exclude “low risk†programs.
This upgrade also includes general improvements to Active Protection,
Windows 98SE and ME compatibility and the user interface. Official

Hi Plun

Are you receiving some sort of `kick back` for selling
this to the dedicated followers of MSAS? :)

Plun, Keep the information coming. I always like to check what others are
doing in the realm of spyware detection and removal. I really hope that
MSAS does some thing about recognizing and handling tracking cookies. MSAS
is the only anti spyware that I know of that doesn't recognize and clean
cookies. Hope next release includes this area.

I don't think so. Plun's time spent in this forum is very helpful to
Microsoft's customers--he's got strong views on what is wrong with Microsoft
and its products, as do many of us, and there's nothing wrong with stating
them here.

I'm looking forward to seeing head to head reviews of this product and
Microsoft Antispyware, once both are released.

Hi

Nope, just to open up horizon for
different solutions. A lot of users
knows nearly nothing about spyware protection.

And this hijack spyware market must be drained as fast
as possible.

Whoa you guys !! I was only kidding and no offence meant
or intended Plun. I respect and can often sense the
dedicated passion with which you write some of your posts.
While I totally agree with your philosophy regarding
spyware, I can`t help but take the pessimistic view that
it will always be a case of playing catch up with the bad
guys. The more sophisticated the bad guys become, the more
shophisticated the good guys have to become. They will
always have the initiative in the battle while we have to
wait and see what they`re gonna do next. These newsgroups
bear witness to that. Perhaps the software giant should
have seen this coming a long time ago.

Hi Stu

No problem ! If I stick out my nose, I must stand it...... ;)

MSAS has changed this situation now, before we had a situation with
antispyware apps 2 steps after spyware creators.

With MSAS and all competition between all players this situation
is totally different now, look within all forums, the amount of
hijacked are now really reduced and this is beacuse of MSAS and much
better detections from all antispyware programs.

So this spyware market is nearly drained now I believe, If I was an
investor I didn´t put a nickle within spyware nowadays.

And this was also Mr Bill Gs vision when MS bought Giant as I
understands it.

Hopefully MS don´t drain security market also..........

Actually, I believe the trend is away from cookie handling. I believe
Symantec's products don't do it at all. Trend Micro does it, but defaults
to KEEP, (and it is a great pain on an online scan to change KEEP to DELETE
for 75 cookies!)

Hi Plun

I shouldn`t be so pessimistic eh? I agree spyware must inevitabley decline
as software companies like MS and many others raise the level of their game.
Question is. Will they ever be able to eradicate it to the point its not a
viable proposition anymore? I for one would certainly like to think so.

Lets hope MS doesn`t do just that - drain the security market. When it comes
out of Beta next year, as a freebie with real time protection it`s gonna be
hard to beat.

Well, we can see signs now as I wrote, but the users already using anti
spyware apps now are a majority well informed users, we have a "big
user crowd" coming which knows nothing about spyware and not using
security packages or MSAS.

So this is the next challenge to inform them to use MSAS.

But I belive that spyware market is soon dead beacuse of
all goood antispyware apps and this competition between them.
And thats the goal ;)

Lets hope MS doesn`t do just that - drain the security market. When it comes
out of Beta next year, as a freebie with real time protection it`s gonna be
hard to beat.

I can see with my TrendMicro 2006 Beta that the antispyware module is
really good and I prefer a security package from one vendor.
Maybe in perfect harmony with MSAS :)

And I would not put all my eggs within one MS basket and "One Care"

Hi Plun,

Think you hit the nail right on the head with this comment:

"we have a big user crowd coming which knows nothing about spyware and not
using security packages or MSAS. So this is the next challenge to inform them
to use MSAS."

At the end of the day, it`s all about raising user awareness and your
observations are very encouraging.

Thanks Ira, for stating your oppinion on scanning and cleaning cookies. I
fully
agree with this idea. Bad cookies can cause as much havic on your system as
other threats. Many do Not many see this
