Counterid Issue

What would cause a Autonumber field to recalculate an
exact same counterid number on a record? In Access 2000.

While the next record entered is several thousand
different?

I've ran the Jet SP8 and this didn't help as well.
 
Can you explain in details what you meant by "recalculate an exact same
counterid number".

I assume you meant an AutoNumber Field?
