I have a question about a possible design. I would like to have a database
that can give me the number of vacancies at a school system.

I will start with, for example, the number 20 and each time I input a Name
or delete a name the number 20 will adjust itself appropriately so that I can
keep an accurate number to produce in a report.

The report will go something like this.....School Name, the vacant position
name and the space to input names or delete names for the vacant positions.
This is the field that I would like to use to add and subtract from. Is
there a way for access to count based on input of names?

Thanks any suggestions would be appreciated.

You should not be deleting but have a field with information on the fill -
Date, Who, etc. Then just count vacancies using a totals query.
