Count number of occurances in column

I would like to know how to create a formula to count the number o
occurances of a specific item in a column. I want to count th
occurances of 1 from cell B3 to the last row in the column.

For example:

A B C D E
1 1
2 2
3 1
4 2
5 2
6 1
7 2
8 2
9 1


The answer would be 4 because there are four occurances of one in th
column A. If the user added row 10 with value of 3,11 with value of
and twelve with value of 1 , I would want my formula to pick up thos
so my total would change to 6.

Does that make sense?

Sorry, when I posted it, it made it look a bit different. It should b
