count in word

is there a way to count how many ? are in a word doc or any character for all
that matters.
 
1. Ctrl+F to open the Find dialog.

2. Type "?" (without the quotation marks) in the "Find what" box.

3. Check the box for "Highlight all items found."

4. Click Find All.

Word will tell you how many instances it found.

I did think it was a funny way to phrase a question, but I have seen
much worse before...

Yes, I read the post a couple of times before it started to make some sense.

Of course, my instinct was to reach for a macro, but Suzanne's answer is
easier to use.
