Corupt profile password

Help please! After installing a sound card driver I am unable to access my
profile as Windows reports the password file as corupt. This is the only
profile on this machine, can this be recovered? Can any of the files be
recovered? All help and suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Boot to Safe Mode (F8 on restart) as the default "Administrator" account
(this should have a blank password) Use the User account app in control panel
to reset the user pasword.
