Corrution of 03 file by 07 file

BobW

I have both Access 2003 and Access 2007 loaded on my Vista machine.I
normally run in 03 to match most of my clients. When I move to 07 for a
while and then move back to 03 the Access2003 program is corrupted and I
have to use the repair feature of the Add/Delete programs on the Control
panel. After repair 2003 works fine until I go to 07 and back again. I did
not expext that 07 and 03 would be connected in some fashion. A common file
should not be modified. Any help to fix this annoying problem would be
appreciated

It's not corrupted, see:

I tried Option 1 Modify the registry of Browne's suggestions. Worked fine. I
tried to find out from Microsoft knowledgebase and got no where. This is a
major defect. I wonder why it is not better publishe - Thanks for your
help=- Bob

The delay and the install message that comes up when moving between
versions is standard and is a feature. It's not a bug although you
and I may see it that way.

MS has stated they need to do a fair bit of work in the registry in
behind the scenes. Note that O2007 SP1 drastically shortened that
time period although did not eliminate it.

Hi Tony,

You should have seen the demo put on by Sage Key recently. A representative
of this company was present at the Nov. 18 meeting of the PNWADG (Pacific NW
Access Developer's Group). He showed how their product virtually eliminates
the waiting/reconfiguration time, when switching between Access 2007 and
2003, using either the full install or the runtime. There was no noticeable
wait time at all.

I asked why Microsoft was not able to do this (there were members of the
Access Dev. Team sitting in the back of the room). This presenter smiled and
indicated that Microsoft doesn't want to put the little guys out of business
[not that I really believe that statement].

I purchased a copy of the Sagekey tool and it works really great. But it's
normal price is 695 $ - I don't hope Microsoft's strategy is to give out a
free Access 2007 runtime and to force the developer to buy additional
software to use it. I also wondered why Sagekey is able to solve problems
Microsoft can't solve. In my opinion Access 2007 runtime is not an option
if there are other versions of Access installed - not until you use the
Sagekey tool to start the Access 2007 runtime.

I hope Sagekey will publish a version of their StartAccess_2007.exe (the
tool that allows to start Access 2007 without any delay) for using in
environments that don't need a setup or the runtime just to allow users and
developers to use Access 2007 and older versions of access on the same
machine - and I hope they will make it cheaper then 700 dollars.

Hi André,

Thanks for confirming that the Sagekey tool works for you. I was quite
impressed watching their demo, but you are very correct that the price is
cause for great concern. The Sagekey demo was not a scheduled presentation
for our meeting; I think it was fit in at a moment's notice due to lots of
people, including the Sagekey person, being present in Redmond for the Access
Dev. Kitchen. As such, the representative giving the presentation did not
have the time allocated to demonstrate all of the capabilities of their
product.
