Corrupted "Recycle Bin".

G

Gerry Glendenning

When items are placed into "Recycle Bin", there is an
indication on the Icon that there are items contained
therein. However, when the Icon is opened, there are
no items present.

Hence I was instructed to do the following:

Bring up the MSDOS Prompt and do thusly:

Type C:\>attrib -s -h recycled <enter> followed by:

Type C:\>del recycled <enter> followed by:

"Reboot the computer in order to rebuild the Recycle Bin."

Problem remained the same; no change.

Is there another way to go about solving this dilemma?

It's a common problem. There's probably some file corruption. The usual
quick fix is: Delete any file (just to make sure there's something in the
bin).

Then, with the Recycle Bin CLOSED, right click the Recycle Bin desktop icon,
select: Empty Recycle Bin, and when the Confirm File Delete dialog box
comes up, click the OK button. Then reboot your system. After doing
the above, any deleted files should now list correctly in the Recycle
Bin.

Doing the above should fix the problem. But, you will lose any files that
were PREVIOUSLY in the Recycle Bin.

Gerry,

This may be due to the corrupt info2 file. Follow this procedure.

IMPORTANT: All the files deleted previously [present in the R.Bin] will be erased permanently.

Create a dummy notepad document and save it. Delete the file and let it go to recycle bin. Now, empty recycle-bin.

Solution 2: You may need to delete the Recycled folder or deleting the info2 file. See, Troubleshooting the Recycle Bin: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_qr.htm#rb
