corrupted normal.dot

Somehow my "blank document" in word 2002 has a letter in
it. This results in a letter coming up everytime you
request a "new" document. Does anyone know how to edit
this and clear the document.
 
Open normal.dot. Delete the spurious material (and while you're at it, set
the default margins and styles as you want them). Save.
