Corrupted Database

B

Brian

Trying to perform any function (such as opening,
performing a compact and repair, or linking to tables) in
an access database produces the following error message:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process
because you and another user are attempting to change the
same data at the same time."
I've copied this database to a non shared drive and get
the same results when trying to open the copy. Any
thoughts on how to free this file up would be greatly
appreciated.

Brian, this issue may be solved by installing the Jet 4 Service Pack 8 from
support.microsoft.com (Service Packs section).

To find out what version of Jet 4 you currently have, locate the file
msjet40.dll (usually in windows\system32), right-click, and choose version.
You need the upgrade if you have less than 4.0.8015.0.

Allen, Jet 4 did need upgraded but installing the service
pack didn't help with opening the file.

Brian, this may be the first time I've ever disagreed with Allen, but
I've never seen jet4sp8 ever fix this type of corruption after it has
occurred. That update is indeed helpful in reducing corruption, and
advisable for other reasons, and you certainly should update all
machines to it, but it won't solve the problem you already have (but
you know that now, don't you?).

IF you wish, send the file in to us and we'll diagnose it for free,
and send you a detailed quote for recovering it.
