corrupt system file in Windows XP

Is there any way to repair a corrupt system file without doing a complete reinstall? Right now the Windows will not boot (even in safe mode).

OK, OK, I should have reworded it to clarify my answer.
I don't think of a Repair Installation as a complete reinstall.
I was thinking of a complete reinstall as a Clean Installation.
However since there is really no such thing as a "complete reinstall",
only the OP knows what he really meant..
