Corrupt Styles

I am working on Word 2003. I am using a template (which is also used by many
other writers in my department).

Three of the styles within the template consistently appear with the
incorrect formatting on my computer (they display correctly for every other
writer--they are also all on Word 2003).

I have the same fonts installed as everyone else.

The Automatically Update Document Styles checkbox is NOT selected.

Any ideas of what the problem could be?

Different printer driver ? Word will change formatting depending on the
printer selected - and if the printer doesn't have the fonts or has an odd
font mapping that may change what you see.

Thanks for the reply!

Actually it's the same printer driver and the formatting issue has to do
with indentation of styles with bullets applied (nothing to do with margins),
so I don't believe the printer driver or fonts would have anything to do with
it...

For example, I created a style named Bullet with a left indent of 0". When
I aplly the Bullet style, the indent is .25".

Any other suggestions?

Hi Softwarewriter

Are you creating and/or applying the Bullet style by using the bullet button
on the toolbar? If so, that won't work?

Can you tell us how you are creating the Bullet style and how you are
applying it?

Hope this helps.

To create the style, I am opening the Style and Formatting menu option and
clicking New Style. I'm creating a Paragraph style and then adding
bullets/indentation via the Format button.

To apply the style, I am highlighting the text to which I want to apply the
style, and then selecting the Bullet style from the list of styles dropdown.

I don't believe the problem is with the style or the template itself (as the
other writers in our deparment do not have problems with any of the bullet
styles), but maybe with a setting on my computer???

Thanks in advance for the help!

Are you creating the tab and indent on the style from Format > Number? If
you change them using the style's Format > Paragraph settings that won't
hold; they'll revert to whatever you set in Format > Number at some point -
but not necessarily immediately. If you haven't done already, have a look at

http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/bullets/controlbullets.html

Are you highlighting at least a full paragraph (triple-click) before
applying the style? Or you can just click in the paragraph. Highlighting
part of a paragraph won't apply the paragraph style.

As for settings on your computer, make sure you haven't got any of the
"Apply As You Type" and "Automatically As You Type" settings on (Tools >
AutoCorrect > AutoFormat As You Type). You might also try Resetting all the
panes of the Format > Bullets and Numbering dialog.
