corrupt registry replaces corrupt registry

every time i restart windows and log into my desktop i get an error saying
that "a serious error has occured" and that "your registry is corrupt and
has been restored from a backup or archived version"

after this the PC works on accept for the periodical black out where it
drops out and restarts

anyway whatever i do the system throws up the same error every time.

i dont have system restore turned on because ive been told it slows
everythng down. (my bad)

is there anyway i can get a new "backup or archived" version of the registry
and if so how do i sort it out.

ive tried NetMechanic and RegistryMechanic which do show some issues (mainly
files linking to non existent folders), these i have deleted as the program
suggests only to be faced with the exact same error again when i reset.

ive installed all service packs

anyone help me?
