Correct procedure for restoring Domina Controller please

what is the correct procedure for reinstalling a failed dc please. is it to
reinstall the operating system, then the system state from backup? or is it
to reinstall the os, then promote to dc, then reinstall system state?

First question: do You want to reinstall it from the scratch or recover
from backup media? If this is a second case I think You may find this

Thanks Tomasz I will look at that, should have added that I have a backup on
media. Just wondering at what stage to restore it. Surely I have to run
dcpromo to make this server a domain controller again, and then restore
system state? Or can I restore the backup on a newly installed member server
in the domain, and let the backup bring it back up as a domain controller?
Just want to get the procedure right..
