Please redirect me if this is the wrong site.

I am trying to copy/move files from my laptop to the D drive. Every time I
click on copy, i get a box saying to insert disk into D drive. It is in.
what am I doing wrong?

I have windows XP, and am usinf DVD+R disks.

Thanks in advance

likely the disk is unusable.

eventhough the disk may
not have any data, if the eject
button is programmed to "burn"
the disk when pressed, then the
disk becomes write protected/burned
and can no longer be written to.

another thing is that your
drive might be the type that
only plays dvd's but can read/write
to cds.

---------------
incidentally,

microsoft provides something
called skydrive and you can
store up to 5 gigs of data and
pics for free:

XP cannot write to DVD discs without third party software that's why your
DVD+R discs are not being recognized. Either use CD-R media or get third
party software like Nero, Sonic or Roxio or alternatively use a free program
like this one which works well http://www.cdburnerxp.se/

D: drive is the dvd,or is it a hd.If its the dvd, create a new folder in my
docum-
ents,copy the files/folders to new folder,once completed,R.click on the
folder,
locate & select "move to cd/dvd drive",a new window will open,L.click on the
folder,in L.sub menu,select write to dvd.If D: is a hd,do the same w/o
writing
to dvd/cd disk.

XP can't write to DVDs, only CD. You need third party software to do this

I haven't used the XP writing software, but IIRC you select your file and in
one of the menus there is a burn to CD option, or something similar.
The Help and Support Centre, (start menu, or F1 from the desktop), has
instructions on how to write files to a cd. Search for Write to CD

thanks to all of you for trying to help. I'll try nero or one of those even
tho the salesman told me I didn't need to.

thanks again

Perhaps you already have third party DVD burning software installed. Many
computers are sold with such software pre-installed. Ask the 'salesman' to
tell you what programs came with your computer in addition to the operating
system.
