Copying text gives me date value.

I am trying to copy a table from a web site. However some of the
values are in 4/1 format. When copying the numbers into Excel it
converts them into a date format. I will like to copying the table to
prevent them from converts these values into dates.

Step one: Before pasting, format the cells as text
Step two: Instead of just pasting, Paste Special and click on "text
 
For me, "Text" is not an option under "Paste Special". Am I missing something?
