I have a document containing numbers (upto 3 levels). When I copy the
document and paste it in a new document it removes all the numbers. How can
I stop this?

Word 2003. Yes it was via styles (Heading 1, Heading 2 etc). Trouble is I'm
not an expert with numbering so never know if I'm doing it right.

By default, when copying text formatted in styles that exist in the target
document, the formatting of the target is applied. This explains why
numbering is removed.

Note that, instead of copying from your document to another document, you
can do the opposite: copy from the other document into your document.

If you want to create a new document with the same formatting as your
existing document, you can use File | Save As to create a template. Then
create documents from the template. You should be able to copy text without
losing any formatting.
