Copying animations in PowerPoint 2003

I have many pictures with complex animations attached to them. I would like
to replace the pictures--but keep the exact same animations as the original
pictures had. Can this be done? Can the animations be copied from one object
to another? Is there a feature similar to Format Painter for animations?

You need an add in to do this. Its called "animation carbon"
