Copying an Excel chart into a Word document

The font of category axis (set at 45 degrees) becomes grainy and changes size
when I copy it into Word (tried all three paste special options -- picture,
ms object and picture meta (each skewed the font somewhere in the object).
Can this be prevented?

I also opened a new Word doc and created it by going to Excel from that
location. When I closed Excel the category axis font in this chart again
skewed; however if I copied the chart while stil in Excel (via Word), all
fonts copied correctly. Any idea what the issue is?

The problem might not be how you are pasting into Word, but how you are
copying from Excel.

1. In Excel, select the area surrounding the chart.
2. While holding done the shift key Edit > Copy Picture
3. Check As Shown on screen and Bitmap
4. In Word, just paste normally - a picture will be pasted.

It should be a perfect image, but because its just a picture, you can resize
it to your preference.

Good Luck

Actually, if you choose the bitmap option, resizing can produce poor
results, because of the screen resolution. However, you can copy as a
picture (On Screen and Picture options), and the pasted image is much
nicer to work with.

Dear Gary:

Thank you for the information. The document I was working in is online at
work, so I will not get to try your recommendation until tomorrow night. I
will let you know the outcome.

I am checking this as helpful because I had completely forgotten about
copying options and your suggestion was most instructive.

Dear Jon:

Thank you for the additional information on how to copy an Excel chart. I
won't get to try your suggestion until tomorrow night when I am back at work
(where the document in question is located). I am posting this as helpful
because I definitely learned from your suggestion -- the ins and outs of
resizing a copied picture.

Gary:

I just had time to recreate a similar document. I copied as a picture and
selected as shown (if I selected as printed, it didn't bring the color over).
It worked. Thanks again for your help.

Jon:

I created a similar docuemtn to test your recommendation. It worked. I
copied as a picture choosing the as shown option (if I didn't it copied as
black and white, the colors did not come over). Thanks so much for your help.

Carolyn -

Thanks for the feedback. It's helpful to know our suggestions are useful.

I'm guessing that you got a black and white using the As Printed option
because you have a B&W printer installed as the default printer.
