Copying Addresses from the To: line

When I type addresses into the TO: line, some appear like this: john
doe <[email protected]> and some appear like this:
jan doe ([email protected])

In my contacts list, the information is identically formatted for each
person. "File as" doe, john and "Display as" is ([email protected])

I posted this message in May and didn't receive any answers, so I'm
trying again.

I use Outlook 2003
When I address a message to someone in my contacts list, sometimes the
address appears in the TO: line within these brackets: < > and
sometimes within these brackets ( ). For example: John Doe
<[email protected]> or John Doe ([email protected])

If I copy and paste "John Doe <[email protected]>" from the To: line into
the message body, only "John Doe" appears, not the email address.

If I copy and paste "John Doe ([email protected])" from the To: line into
the message body, the name AND the address appears, thus allowing me to
create a link to that person's address.

How do I ensure that addresses in my contacts lists display only within
( )?

What I think you're seeing has to do with your autocompletion cache, but to
eliminate that, tell me what you mean when you say "when I type addresses in
the TO line". Do you start typing and the addresses simply appear, do you
have to resolve the addresses with CTRL-K or Check Names, or are you
clicking the To button and pulling addresses from the Address Book?

The data is being populated from your autocomplete cache. There is no
relevant difference between the <>'s and the ()'s in your email address.
The data is not being populated from your contact folder, but rather from
the autocomplete cache file known as the NK2 file. The file is generated
when you send an email or reply to an email. Therefore, how the data is
formatted in your NK2 depends upon the manner in which it is formatted by
the sender.

For more information on the NK2 file, you can review:
