copy slides from a slideshow

Hi,

I have a hierarchal diagram on one slide with many boxes with links on them.
Click on any box and another powerpoint presentation slideshow, linked to
that box, will start. The linked shows are in different files.
I would like to simply pick any slide I like from any of the slideshows and
drop them into a blank presentation so I can build up a custom presentation.
I have tried recording some simple macros but the moment it tries to run
within the linked slideshow, that show closes and I get back to my "start
page".

Any help would be much appreciated

Can you not just copy/paste the slides manually?

Or are you trying to set something up so you can do this while the
presentations are running?

This is a manual method for PowerPoint 2002 and 2003.

In the presentation that you want to copy the slide image from ...
....select the slide miniature image from the pane on the left
....copy the slide (CTL+C or Edit -> Copy)

In the presentation that you want to add the image to...
....select the slide where you want to insert
....paste the image (*Important* Use Edit ->Paste Special)
....from the list of options, select Picture (Enhanced Metafile) for a
scalable image
....resize, link, etc. the new image to taste

Thanks for the help guys.

Unfortunately the launched files will only ever be in slideshow format so I
don't think there is a way of carrying out any functions on these (e.g. copy
slide).

This needs to happen whilst the slideshow is going, in the background if you
like. A blank presentation will open up at the start and selected slides will
go in here.

I need some help on how to call up the blank presentation, then go back to
the open slideshow.

Also, is there a way of stopping the screen updating, like you can in Excel?

Cheers

Somehow I think we're still missing chunks of information here.

Where are the slides being selected? Somewhere during the presentation?

Ok....

A slideshow is launched from a button in the navigation file.

Within the launched slideshow I would like to pick out a random slide and
insert that in my blank presentation. I would return to the navigation tool,
launched another slideshow from a different linked button and then insert
another slide from that presentation into the blank.

So the slides I wish to insert are coming from slideshows launched from
buttons within a navigation tool (in PP)

Hope this helps :)

Thanks

So the launched presentations will be opened in slide show view -- ah, I see
you mentioned that below. I guess I'm still trying to wrap my head around
how the user would choose the random slides in the launched slide show. Do
you have (want) a button on each slide that adds that slide to a blank
presentation or something?

I don't have any idea how or if this can be accomplished in VBA, but at
least those who do will have a better handle on what it is you want to do.
:)

And with that, I'll step out of this.

How will you choose the slides to be included?

An action button on each slide in the example presentations, perhaps? Click it
and the slide gets dropped into the new presentation you're creating? (Deleting
the button on the way, probably).

This could all be done one way or another using VBA; I don't recall whether you
mentioned it or not, but do you do any VBA programming or have help from
somebody who does?

Hope this helps :)

Thanks
