Copy/Paste quit working

Don Gollahon

Copy/Paste on my laptop (XP Pro with latest updates) stops working
regularly. I have to reboot to get to to work again.

I've tried all suggestions I can find on this newsgroup but nothing fixes
it. I do not have the msblast virus. RPC is running, Cleaned the temp
internet files directory. Emptied the trash can. Still, no copy/paste.

Gateway 450ROG laptop.

Thanks.

Where has it stopped working, Don? More info needed here. Does Ctrl C and
V work?

Absolutely no method of copy/paste works. I try these plus using menus plus
ctrl-ins, shift-ins. Nothing works short of rebooting.

It just quits working. It does act like the copy part works because when I
paste text into notepad it does designate that it needs saved but nothing is
there to save. No lines get added, no text.

And it doesn't matter what app, either. Word, Outlook, etc. All have the
same problem.

Hi Don,

Try posting to the updates group:
A previous post:

Using the clipboard viewer to diagnose this problem reveals that any
pressing of the navigational keys (up/down/left/right arrows, pageUp,
pageDown, home, end) subsequent to a COPY operation results in the
clipboard contents being replaced by PrintScreen! In a RTF editor (MS
Word) this means doing a copy, followed by some navigational keys,
then a paste will result in a PrintScreen bitmap being placed in the
editor. In a non-RTF editor (Notepad) this means doing a copy,
followed by some navigational keys, then a paste will result in NO
paste operation (since the clipboard contains a bitmap which cannot be
pasted into a non-RTF editor).

Copy/Paste functionality works normal provided none of the
navigational keys are pressed.

Hi,

I have a similar problem where Ctrl C does not work
anywhere -- notepad, ie, word,...but Ctrl V does paste.

The only way I get it to work is if I right-click and
select copy then I can do the paste any which way.

Any ideas?

I was having the same problem. In my case, it was an application that
failed to actually start, but was still running under "Processes" in
the task manager. (Windows XP does this to me alot...I tell it to
start an application, get an hourglass like it's starting up, but then
the hourglass goes back to a cursor, and no program is up.)
Anyway, I ended all instances of the unrunning/running program, and
now copying and pasting is working again *without a reboot -yay*,
though clipbrd.exe still won't run. I read somewhere that it might
have something to do with whether the RPC service is running properly.
