Recently, I have encountered a peculiar problem using the standard copy and
paste from the keyboard keys. I am using Office Excel 2000 with Windows
2000. Everytime I do a "cntrl C", no problem, but when I go to empty cells
and do a "cntrl V", it tries to paste an image of the spreadsheet instead of
the formula and corresponding values from the previously copied cells.
What could have changed that I am not aware of? I looked in options and
tried unchecking autocomplete but that doesn't do anything. This just
started after years of using the standard keyboard copy paste features.

Wild guess, but might some macro be "linked" to the CTRL V sequence ?
If not you are on your own as far as I'm concerned. Wouldn't know what
then it could be.

I don't think so. Although I use a lot of macros, I don't set any keyboard
shortcuts. How could I tell without checking each macro one by one?

The only test I can think of is :

Make sure that no workbook containing any macro is loaded (including
Personal.xls) and use the combination.
If it is acting normally now, it is likely that it IS a macro.
Then load one by one "suspected" workbooks (probably personal.xls if you
have it first) and check it each time.

If it doen't work, I don't know of any "overview" function Excel gives to
check which keycombinations are linked to macro's
Maybe someone else knows more about this.

Any chance you have two different instances of excel running--not just multiple
occurrences in the taskbar of the same instance?

If you're sure you don't, you can eliminate any "helpful" macros by starting
excel in safe mode:

close excel
windows start button
run
excel /safe

Then file|open your workbook.

And see what happens.

I have experienced this in Excel 2000 (probably "a feature, not a bug
<grin>) .

I have buttons on my toolbar to paste formulas and paste values, an
have now added one to paste Text by recording a macro using Edit/Past
Special/Text. You could set a keyboard key combination to run it
