Copy paste hyperlink

Hi:

I've inserted a hyperlink to a local file into a cell using Ctrl-K and
selecting the file. Now when I copy the cell down the range, using
simple Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V, sometimes it's worked and sometimes it
hasn't.. That is, the cells are active links and sometimes they
aren't. Odd, too, that sometimes when it's worked only the first
(top) cell in the range displays the link text; the other cells are
all active, but display blank. (the mouse pointer changes from arrow
to finger)

Anybody have an idea of what is going on here? Googling around hasn't
seemed to help (OK, prove me wrong here).

I'm using a helper cell at the moment and the =HYPERLINK(Main!$B$6)
formula, but this seems a bit odd.

Roy: I can't reproduce in 2003. What version are you using?

Using Windows XP Pro SP3, Microsoft Office Professional 2003 Excel SP3

Yes, that's the problem I've had -- idiosyncratic. Works correctly in
a clean sheet, test worksheet, some parts of existing workbook, but
not others. I just thought this problem had come up before and
somebody would have heard about it.

The use of the HYPERLINK  worksheet formula has nothing
whatsover to do with cell link (Ctrl+K)  .  See

David:

Thanks for your link to your pages with useful stuff.

The use of the HYPERLINK() function here is to short-circuit the
problem with cutting and pasting actual links. What I've done is
insert the link in a MAIN tab page, and then HYPERLINK() to that cell
in the DATA tab page. The HYPERLINK() is a simple formula, whereas
the inserted hyperlink with Ctrl-K appears to be a more complex entity
which has some dependencies which seem to be messing up the copy-paste
Ctrl-C Ctrl-V operation over the range I waa attempting to insert it
on.

Your link is useful, and I've saved it for further investigation when
I have time to explore all you've done there.

When you copy down, which I presume you mean with the AutoFill
and are getting bad links could you please post what you have for
the first link, and the next two below it. Show
Visible and the link and what you expected for the link

If this is just for you own use and not for presentation, you might take
a look at this if all data is in the same format and you are trying to
create a summary page.
